I think about the forces that shape the dynamics of complex biological and social systems.
More formally, I am an Associate Professor (Tenure) in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Yale University, a Professor at the Santa Fe Institute, and the Principal Investigator of the Ogbunu Laboratory (lab website is here, a standard biosketch can be found here).
I carry a secondary appointment in the Department of Anthropology, Yale University. I’m also a a faculty affiliate with Computational Biology and Bioinformatics Track, in the Combined Program in the Biological and Biomedical Sciences (BBS), Yale School of Medicine. I am a member of the Public Health Modeling Unit in the Yale School of Public Health. And I am a core teaching faculty member of the Global Health Studies Program, Jackson Institute for Global Affairs, Yale University.
During the 2022–2023 academic year, I was a Martin Luther King Jr Visiting Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
I’m the author of a monthly column at Undark Magazine entitled Selective Pressure.
I’m an Ideas contributing writer at WIRED Magazine, and have been contributing columnist at Quanta Magazine, a regular contributor to Andscape and several other venues. I am a former contributing editor at WNYC’s RadioLab.
